Timothée Chalamet has made history by becoming the youngest actor to win the Best Actor award at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. At 29, he received this honor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the film “A Complete Unknown” during the 31st SAG Awards held on February 23, 2025, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
This achievement surpasses the previous record held by Nicolas Cage, who was 32 when he won the same award for “Leaving Las Vegas” in 1996.
In his acceptance speech, Chalamet expressed surprise and gratitude, thanking his mother, who accompanied him to the event.
“A Complete Unknown,” directed by James Mangold, chronicles Bob Dylan’s rise to fame, culminating in his controversial electric performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. The film has garnered critical acclaim, receiving eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan has been lauded for its depth and authenticity, with critics highlighting his commitment to the role, which involved over five years of preparation.
With this SAG Award win, Chalamet is now a strong contender for the upcoming Oscars, where he could potentially become the youngest actor to win the Best Actor category, surpassing Adrien Brody’s record set in 2003 for “The Pianist.”
“A Complete Unknown” is currently available for streaming, allowing audiences to experience Chalamet’s award-winning performance firsthand.
