Terror Module Suspected: Delhi on High Alert After Deadly Red Fort Car Explosion

by | Nov 11, 2025 | NEWS

The nation’s capital was thrown into a state of high alert following a powerful car explosion near the historic Red Fort on Monday evening, which killed at least eight people and injured over twenty. Today, November 11, 2025, the investigation has rapidly intensified, pointing toward a possible link to a sophisticated interstate terror module.

Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act, confirming that no angle, including terrorism, is being ruled out.

The Attack: High-Intensity Blast in a Moving Car

The high-intensity explosion occurred around 6:52 PM IST at the Subhash Marg traffic signal, near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station—a densely crowded area during the evening rush.

  • The Vehicle: The blast originated in a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car with a Haryana registration plate. Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed the explosion was so powerful it completely destroyed the vehicle and immediately set fire to at least six cars and multiple auto-rickshaws nearby.
  • Victims: At least eight people, including pedestrians and occupants of nearby vehicles, were killed, and over 20 sustained injuries. Initial reports suggest the death toll may rise.
  • Immediate Response: Within minutes, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch, along with the National Security Guard (NSG), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and forensic units, rushed to the site to begin a thorough investigation and collect samples.

The Terror Module Connection

The investigation is focused heavily on a potential connection to a major security operation earlier the same day:

  • Faridabad Link: The explosion came hours after authorities in a joint operation across Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh busted a “white-collar” terror network and seized nearly 2,900 kg of explosive-making material—including ammonium nitrate—from a house in Faridabad.
  • The Driver Suspect: Investigators are now tracing the ownership of the exploded Hyundai i20. Sources suggest the car was linked to a Pulwama-based doctor, Dr. Mohammad Umar, who allegedly belonged to the same terror network arrested in the Faridabad raid. CCTV footage has reportedly placed Umar in the car shortly before the blast. Authorities are conducting DNA tests on the charred body recovered from the exploded car to confirm the identity of the person driving.
  • Motive Speculation: Intelligence sources speculate that the blast may have been a desperate, pre-emptive fidayeen (suicide) attack carried out by the module after their terror network was exposed in the earlier arrests.

Security on High Alert

Following the tragedy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally took stock of the situation, visited the injured at Lok Nayak Hospital, and is chairing a high-level security review meeting today.

  • CISF High Alert: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has issued a high alert across all major installations nationwide, including airports, the Delhi Metro, heritage sites, and government buildings.
  • State Alerts: Neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra, have been placed on high alert, with security tightened at religious sites, sensitive border areas, and all major transport hubs.
