India Shines at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025: Medal Tally

India concluded its campaign at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, with a commendable total of 24 medals: 8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze.  It was held from 27 to 31 May 2025. This is the third time South Korea have hosted the championships after the 1975 and 2005 editions. This performance secured India the second position in the overall medal tally, trailing only behind China, which amassed 32 medals, including 19 golds .

The overall count of 24 medals was less than India’s tally of 27 medals in the previous edition of the tournament. However, the contingent improved on the gold tally, increasing it from 6 to 8.

Standout performances included Gulveer Singh’s double gold in long-distance events and Jyothi Yarraji’s successful defense of her 100m hurdles title, underscoring India’s prowess in both endurance and sprint disciplines. Notably, 18-year-old Pooja Singh made history by becoming India’s youngest Asian champion in the women’s high jump .
