The India vs Pakistan clash in the World Champions of Legends (WCL) was unexpectedly called off after several Indian players, including Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina, reportedly withdrew from the game. The match was scheduled for Sunday, July 20, and was one of the most anticipated encounters of the tournament.
Pakistan Refuses to Split Points
The Pakistan Champions team is refusing to share points in the standings, claiming that India backed out. WCL sources say the Pakistan side is blaming the Indian team for the cancellation and does not agree with awarding points equally.
Multiple Indian Players Withdrew
As per reports, Indian legends such as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Yusuf Pathan also opted out of the game. While no official confirmation came from the Indian side, the withdrawals forced the organisers to cancel the fixture altogether.
WCL Source Clears India of Blame
The WCL organisers informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that they were not able to conduct the match, and confirmed that the India Champions were not at fault.
“WCL have conveyed to the ECB that they, as organisers, were not able to conduct this match. The India Champions team are not at fault. Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them,” said a WCL source.
Shikhar Dhawan Speaks Out on X
Reacting to the controversy, Shikhar Dhawan said:
“Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota.” (The step I took on May 11, I still stand by it. My country is everything to me, and nothing is bigger than the nation)
