The Bihar Assembly elections reached their decisive final stage today, November 11, 2025, with voting underway across 122 constituencies in the second and final phase. The polling process, which covers key regions like Magadh, Mithilanchal, and Seemanchal, is poised to determine the fate of the next state government, effectively serving as a referendum on the 15-year tenure of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) reported a strong voter turnout, indicating high public enthusiasm despite the challenges of the final phase.

Key Turnout and Polling Highlights

The voting process, which began at 7:00 a.m. IST across 20 districts, saw a brisk pace throughout the morning:

  • Turnout Rate: The state recorded an impressive approximate voter turnout of 31.38% till 11:00 a.m.
  • Highest Participation: The districts of Kishanganj (34.74%), Gaya (34.07%), and Jamui (33.69%) reported the highest polling percentages in the first four hours.
  • Contrasting Regions: While some districts in the Seemanchal region showed strong participation, traditional seats like Madhubani reported slightly lower turnout (28.66%).

This second phase is deciding the electoral future for 1,302 candidates, including twelve ministers from the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet, such as Vijendra Yadav (Supaul), Prem Kumar (Gaya), and Renu Devi (Bettiah).

Political Leaders Express Confidence

Leaders from both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) expressed confidence in securing a majority.

  • NDA Stance: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain appealed to voters to support development, stating he was confident that the “double-engine government” (NDA at both the center and state) would be retained.
  • Opposition View: The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress leaders asserted that there is a “palpable sentiment against the NDA,” claiming the people are yearning for change centered on issues of employment, migration, and social security.

The high energy in the final phase follows the record-breaking turnout of 65.08% registered in the first phase of the elections held on November 6.

All eyes are now focused on the final vote count, which is scheduled for November 14, 2025.
