Quality Control Alert: Maruti Suzuki Recalls 39,500 Grand Vitara Units Over Faulty Fuel Indicator

by | Nov 18, 2025 | Business

India’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), has announced a major recall of 39,506 units of its popular mid-size SUV, the Grand Vitara. The company initiated the voluntary recall to address a potential defect in the vehicle’s fuel level indicator.

This marks the largest recall for the Grand Vitara since its launch in 2022 and comes despite the model recently achieving a significant sales milestone.

The Specific Defect

The recall is focused on vehicles manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025.

  • The Issue: Maruti Suzuki confirmed in a regulatory filing that it is suspected that the fuel level indicator and warning light in the speedometer assembly of some units “may not accurately reflect the fuel status as intended.”
  • The Impact: This inaccuracy could potentially mislead drivers about the actual amount of fuel remaining in the tank, raising concerns about safety and inconvenience, especially during long-distance travel.

Company Response and Free Rectification

MSIL has emphasized that the recall is a precautionary measure taken under the commitment to customer safety and quality assurance.

  • Customer Communication: The company will be reaching out directly to the owners of all affected vehicles.
  • Inspection and Replacement: Owners will be asked to bring their vehicles to authorized Maruti Suzuki dealer workshops, where the part will be inspected. If found faulty, the component will be replaced completely free of cost.
  • Context: The recall highlights the rigorous quality check process being implemented across the Indian automotive industry, ensuring even successful, high-selling models like the Grand Vitara adhere to the highest standards of accuracy and reliability.

The news places the spotlight on the company’s technical quality control just as the model was being lauded for achieving over 300,000 sales in 32 months, driven largely by its Strong Hybrid variants.
