14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes IPL History with Record-Breaking Century

A new chapter was written in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned the cricketing world with a record-breaking century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.

In just his third IPL innings, Suryavanshi delivered a sensational knock of 101 runs off 38 balls, guiding the Royals to an eight-wicket win. With this, he became the youngest player in history to score a T20 century, breaking the record held by Maharashtra’s Vijay Zol, who achieved the feat at 18 years and 118 days.

The teenager’s performance wasn’t just historic in terms of age. He also:

  • Became the youngest to score a T20 100
  • Registered the fastest century by an Indian in IPL
  • Hit the second-fastest century in IPL history
  • Suryavanshi’s hundred came off just 35 balls, placing him just behind Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball century.

The elite list of fastest IPL centuries now reads:

RankPlayerBalls to Century
1Chris Gayle30
2Vaibhav Suryavanshi35
3Yusuf Pathan37
4David Miller38
5Travis Head39

In his electrifying innings, the left-hander hammered 7 fours and 11 sixes, showcasing immense power and confidence far beyond his age. His fearless approach was evident from the beginning of his IPL journey, where he hit his very first ball for six and scored 34 runs against Lucknow Super Giants.

Ravi Shastri’s Praise and Caution

Former India coach and cricket legend Ravi Shastri was among the many who were left in awe. Speaking on the latest episode of The ICC Review with host Sanjana Ganesan, Shastri said:

“I think the first shot he ever played (against Lucknow), that would have taken everyone’s breath away.”

While praising the young star, Shastri also offered wise caution. He emphasized the importance of letting Suryavanshi grow and face the natural ups and downs of the game:

“He’s young, just let him play. At that age, there’s bound to be failure as well. It’s how he handles failure, as people will come up with new things.”

Looking ahead, Shastri predicted that bowlers would test Suryavanshi with short-pitched deliveries in upcoming games.

“There’ll be lots of short stuff thrown at him the next time he comes out to bat. When you tonk someone’s first ball for six, then you show no mercy. You don’t care whether he’s 14, 12, or 20 years old. The menu is the same.”

He concluded by saying that the real judgment will come once the teenager proves his ability to adapt:

“Once we see him handling that, then you can make a proper judgement.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rise has injected fresh excitement into the IPL and Indian cricket. At just 14, he’s not only rewriting records but redefining what’s possible. As fans and experts look ahead, one thing is certain — the journey has just begun for this cricketing prodigy.

Stay tuned for more updates on this rising star as the IPL unfolds.
