Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, presided over the sacred “Dhwajarohan Utsav” (flag hoisting ceremony) at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, marking the formal and symbolic completion of the temple’s main construction.

The ceremony, held in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, was witnessed by thousands of invitees and devotees across the country, symbolizing a new chapter of cultural celebration and national unity.

The Symbolic Dhwajarohan

The hoisting of the flag atop the 191-foot-high shikhar (spire) is considered the traditional culmination ritual of temple construction in the Hindu tradition.

  • The Flag: Prime Minister Modi ceremonially hoisted a specially crafted, right-angled triangular saffron flag, measuring 10 feet high and 20 feet long.
  • Sacred Symbols: The flag, known as the ‘Dharma Dhwaj,’ bears three sacred symbols: a radiant Sun (symbolizing Lord Ram’s Suryavanshi lineage), the sacred symbol ‘Om,’ and the Kovidara tree (a symbol of ancient wisdom and sacred traditions).
  • Auspicious Timing: The ceremony was performed during the Abhijit Muhurat (the most auspicious time), coinciding with Vivah Panchami, the day commemorating the divine marriage of Lord Ram and Mata Sita.

PM’s Visit and Temple Rituals

The flag hoisting was the climax of the Prime Minister’s spiritual itinerary in Ayodhya today:

  • Roadshow and Welcome: PM Modi was received with a warm welcome and a festive roadshow upon arrival, with crowds showering flower petals on his convoy.
  • Worship: Before the main event, the Prime Minister visited and offered prayers at several new temples within the complex, including the Saptmandir (dedicated to seven Rishis), the Sheshavtar Mandir, and the Mata Annapurna Mandir. He also performed darshan and pooja at the Ram Darbar and Ram Lalla Garbha Grah.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called the event a “renaissance of Sanatan culture,” emphasizing that the rising flag symbolizes the fulfillment of the centuries of faith and sacrifice associated with the temple movement. The PM is expected to address the gathering before departing, delivering a message on unity and cultural heritage.
